Every finger carries its own meaning
Did you know that, just like gemstones, every finger has its own meaning? Of course, we all know that a wedding ring is worn on the ring finger. But why? It’s something we rarely stop to think about.
While on holiday in Japan, our Head of Product Jolanda bought a ring and received a beautiful card explaining the meaning behind each individual finger. Confidence, positivity, intuition, love, happiness, resilience, focus, support, calm and charm.

What an eye-opener and so perfectly in line with what we do. After all, we work with the meaning of gemstones and symbols in our jewelry every single day.
Match the meaning of your ring with the meaning of your finger
If you love wearing rings with meaning, you’ve probably already made the connection. By wearing your ring on a specific finger, you can subtly strengthen its symbolism, add a new layer of meaning or give it a slightly different focus. As we looked into it more deeply, we also discovered some subtle differences between cultures. To keep things simple, we’ve listed the most common Western meaning of each finger for you.
Two hands, five fingers, ten meanings
Left hand
The left hand is connected to the right side of the brain. This is where intuition, creativity and your inner emotional world are rooted. The left hand is often seen as the more sensitive, feminine hand.
- Left thumb – willpower, energy
- Left index finger – self-awareness, positivity
- Left middle finger – balance, inner calm
- Left ring finger – love, connection (traditionally linked to the heart)
- Left little finger – intuition, emotional connection
Right hand
The right hand is connected to the left side of the brain, where logic, action and strength come into play. The right hand is often seen as the more active, dominant hand.
- Right thumb – confidence, determination
- Right index finger – ambition, focus
- Right middle finger – responsibility, control
- Right ring finger – passion, creativity
- Right little finger – focus, success, self-expression
