Susanne Schmid is the owner of Einzelstück, one of our largest retailers in Switzerland. When she opened her first store in 2011, Susanne sold vintage furniture and handmade products. Now, 14 years and three additional locations later, Einzelstück has shifted its focus to gifts. She collaborates with 200 suppliers from all over the world, primarily small (family) businesses and fair-trade partners. Every day, Susanne finds joy in the little things.
"Twenty years ago, I worked in Nepal and India on two social projects in the textile sector. That experience was a turning point in my life. I fell in love with the people, their kindness, their skills, their generosity. From that moment on, I committed to fair trade and sustainable work. In 2017, we discovered A Beautiful Story. It was a perfect match: we share the same values and philosophy. That same year, we also launched Scout, our own fair-trade label. Through Scout, we create new designs and collaborate directly with artisans in Nepal and India."

A funny little dachshund
"I’m a true animal lover and share my life with an incredibly funny dachshund. Watching her enjoy life makes me happy. Music also brings me joy, I have it playing all day long. I find happiness in little wonders, in moments of synchronicity. Waking up each day healthy, loved, and full of energy and ideas is a great privilege. I cherish that and never take it for granted. Even in the store, it’s the small moments that make my day. Seeing people appreciate the tiny yet meaningful details in my designs makes me feel valued. It reminds me why I do what I do."
