Amsterdam, November 16, 2023 | During Black Friday and Cyber Monday at the jewelry brand A Beautiful Story, you won't get a discount; instead, you'll pay more: exactly 1 euro per order. The jewelry brand will double the additional proceeds raised with this price increase, supporting the School Bank Project of Finlit, a non-profit organization providing financial education to children in Nepal. With this initiative, A Beautiful Story joins Fair Friday and encourages girls in Nepal to become financially independent.
Founder of A Beautiful Story Cathelijne Lania: "Discounts, as seen during Black Friday, come at the expense of the people who make the products. That doesn't align with us. That's why we're taking a different approach and doing the opposite during this period. We increase the price of your order by 1 euro, and we will double these extra amounts that are raised. With this initiative, we give children in Nepal the same financial foundation as our employees, so they too can become independent. And we show how important a living wage plus is, as it is not yet a standard in the production chain for everyone."
School Bank Project
In the School Bank Project, schoolchildren learn to understand the value of money and explore the relationship between earning, spending, and saving. With the program, Finlit provides children with a tool to become financially fit and make wise decisions within their family and beyond. There are lessons at school, but the children also put the lessons into practice during the program, such as receiving assistance in opening a bank account.
Living wage plus
A Beautiful Story was founded in 2006 to create employment in Nepal and India based on equality and co-creation. The jewelry brand advocates for a living wage plus, enabling employees to pay for basic needs (such as housing, clothing, food, clean water, and access to healthcare) and save for the future. Finlit enhances the financial independence of employees and supports them with modules, among other things.
Summary of the initiative
- From Black Friday (November 24, 2023) until Cyber Monday (November 27, 2023), customers on abeautifulstory.eu will pay an extra €1 on each order.
- A Beautiful Story will double the extra amounts that are raised.
