Garnet is not to be missed. A powerful and energizing stone in an intense red color. In the Middle Ages, the stone was called ‘carbuncle’. ‘Car’ stands for darkness and ‘buncle’ for spark. Garnet is like candlelight in the dark, full of passion, motivation and creativity. When problems pile up, garnet gives you courage and perseverance. With passion comes desire and romance, and garnet is a big fan of these feelings as well.
After taking millions of years to grow, smokey quartz is now ready to help you. To be more precise, to help you quit. To quit annoying habits. Like being afraid, worrying, doubting, gloomy thoughts, smoking, or snacking. Too much of anything is never a good idea. Stopping also means a new beginning. Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. They go hand in hand. And that's what this patient gemstone can help you with. To detoxify, to be resilient, and to look at new possibilities.
Our jewelry featuring green aventurine is part of our Classics. Like all our jewelry, handmade by our artisans in Nepal. Fair trade. This joyful gemstone is found in China or Russia’s Ural Mountains. Joyful because aventurine attracts abundance and happiness. Of course, in collaboration with your mind-set, because that's where it starts.
Moonstone is a true storyteller. Stories from Hindi and ancient Greece. Stories from the Romans and the first land dwellers. Moonstone has many names as this gemstone has been greatly admired throughout the centuries. Including the Art Nouveau period. During that period, moonstone became popular among famous creators who designed large quantities of jewelry with moonstone in necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
Citrine is derived from the Latin word citrus: lemon tree. The presence of iron oxide and aluminum in the quartz is responsible for its sunny color. The more iron in the gemstone, the browner citrine is. The yellow color is caused by aluminum. You can find this beautiful gemstone in Brazil, Madagascar, and the former Soviet Union. But, citrine is also found in the Cairngorms, a mountain range in the highlands in Scotland. That’s why citrine sometimes is called Cairngorm.
The world is opening up again. We are making plans again and broaden our horizons. We get our summer bodies out and embrace all the colors of the rainbow from the Spring/Summer collection: smoky quartz, citrine, carnelian, aventurine, lapis lazuli and labradorite.
Over the past 15 years, we’ve changed our logo often. From a modern font to a curly one. From a butterfly to a fingerprint. Willemien Ebbinge is our freelance art director. She loves to save the world from boring walls and advises brands on design matters. She kept stalking us about the need for a unique logo.
'I started Artisans 11 years ago, but I have a long experience in this business. I used to work with a friend of mine and we always talked about what we would do differently. What we wanted to improve in order to grow. Some people don't like to receive feedback from customers, we loved it. And I still do. Feedback makes you grow.'
How do you lead a good life in Nepal? What do you need? And how can we at A Beautiful Story ensure that we create stable jobs with a positive impact? Those were the questions we asked ourselves in 2018.
Do you live from the heart? Then you send positive vibes to the people around you. And we all need that. Just like for the rest of the world, the past year hasn’t been easy for A Beautiful Story. A lot of confusion, challenges and tough choices. For our artisans in Nepal, for our team in Amsterdam and for you.
At A Beautiful Story we make lucky tools: jewelry, greeting cards and gifts that do something. That help you on your life journey. A gemstone that gives wings, a bracelet that brings luck, a deck of cards that provides insights. Our gifts all tell their own story. And one story leads to another. This is Martine's story, she got in touch with A Beautiful Story a few years ago. Her story left us without words.
Togetherness. This is the theme of our autumn winter 2020 collection. Togetherness is about the connection we have as a team, with the artisans in Nepal, our retailers and you.
