Sometimes you hear words you want to share with the whole world. The words of Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde deeply touched us. Unity is also the foundation of A Beautiful Story. We believe in a world where every story matters and everyone belongs. But how do you find unity in a world full of emotions and differences? Founder Cathelijne Lania had a beautiful conversation about this with our coach, Eva Kapitany.
Unity
Cathelijne: "Bishop Budde speaks about three pillars of unity: dignity, truth, and humility. It’s about everyone’s value, being honest about who you are, and respecting others without placing yourself above them. That’s where the power of true connection lies. At A Beautiful Story, we believe in a world where every story matters and everyone belongs. I often wonder how we can bring the world closer together, even as a brand. We’re already doing a lot by connecting people worldwide and collaborating. For me, it’s about three things: care, share, and co-create – looking out for each other, sharing honestly, and creating together. We do this with our jewelry, but it can happen in so many ways. How do you achieve this unity?"
Everyone wants to connect
Eva: "The desire to connect with others is a driving force we all share around the world. This force is felt, for example, in collaboration, sports, and of course in friendship and relationships. Sometimes there is a lack of common ground, or others may cause irritation. Our family relationships often provide insights, but distance can also be valuable. Independence and creativity flourish when there is enough space. Outside your comfort zone, new possibilities and patterns emerge, while too much (dis)connection can be stifling.

Connection and autonomy strengthen each other when responsibilities are not taken over. Many tensions arise in this balance, which disrupts the sense of common ground. To enhance this with others, you can start with yourself. Are there people who mirror triggers from your system? And how do you react to them? Try to pause every now and then. Take some distance. And then look again with an open mind."
